Certified Hoodia
How do you know you are buying the real Hoodia Gordonii?
The original cactus comes from South Africa and must be certified.
Hoodia manufacturers must have C.I.T.E.S. Certificate as a proof
of origin. Moreover, this is required to export hoodia gordonii
from South Africa.
Why?
The Hoodia cactus grows throughout the semi-arid areas of Southern
Africa primarily the Kalahari desert. Since it was commercialized,
it is also being grown in several different countries. There are
no proof that the effect of plants from these countries will be
similar to South African cactus. Unfortunately, more than 50% of
Hoodia supplements on the marketed are false. Be sure the company
you are buying from has a valid C.I.T.E.S. certificate. You should
be able to view this document on their website.
What is CITES Certificate?
CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species
of Wild Fauna and Flora) is an international agreement between governments.
Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild
animals and plants does not threaten their survival. Hoodia is registered
as a protected species. The South African government has strictly
regulated the exportation of hoodia to the rest of the world. A
CITES certificate is required to legally export hoodia gordonii
from South Africa.
The CITES document issued in South Africa does not assure the quality
or purity of the hoodia products, but only the country of origin.
It is the first step to real Hoodia supplements. The other impotrant
thing you should know is independent lab report verifying authenticity
and quality of the hoodia product which you choose.
Certified Hoodia Gordonii
So, it is no metter which Hoodia
product you have chosen as long as it is certified Hoodia Gordonii,
originally from South African desert with a lab analysis certificate
that can be independently verified.
